Shafiq Morton is an award-winning Cape Town photojournalist and author of Notebooks from Makkah & Madinah, a historical travelogue of the Holy Pilgrimage, which unearths the roots of modern day Islamic extremism. He has covered the anti-apartheid struggle, the release of Nelson Mandela and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as well as wars, famines and floods in Lebanon, Niger, Libya, Pakistan, Palestine and Somalia.
In 2008 he was awarded the Vodacom Journalist of the Year award in the community category, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 was one of the South Africans voted amongst the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by the Royal Islamic Strategic Centre.
